The Best is in the Middle
For fourteen years, this space was called Be On Target. The name made sense then. But life shifts, roles change, and sometimes you find yourself right where you are supposed to be. Welcome to the updated blog The Best is in the Middle.
It has been seven years since I last wrote here. Four of those years were spent
as a consultant, providing professional development for principals. Three more were spent in the superintendent’s office. I learned a lot in those roles, and I am grateful for the experience.
Yet, I missed it.
I missed being a principal. I missed the daily pulse of a school. After years away from the building level, stepping back into a middle school has reminded me of what matters most. You cannot replicate the energy of the hallways. You cannot substitute the value of real, everyday interactions with students and staff. That is where the real work happens, and that is what I missed the most.
There is also something special about doing this work here. I have lived in this district for 28 years. Serving the community I call home, alongside the families and educators I know and respect, makes this return even more meaningful.
